DisAbled Stories

December 20, 2009

To often people fear others that are different than them, because they don’t really know what those other people’s lives are like. DisAbled Stories is a grass roots attempt to try and change that by allowing others to see into the life of people with disabilities and walk a while in their shoes.

Sounds great, right. So what do you have to do? Just get out your video camera, make sure you are in a well lit, quiet space, turn the video camera on and start talking about what life is really like with your disability.

Sounds easy enough, doesn’t it? You’ve probably been rehearsing for this performance for most of your life. Well, there is just one more thing. Once you’ve shot your interview, go out and try and “show” a little bit of what you are talking about by recording live action examples of your life experiences. Seeing things happen in real life is much more convincing than hearing someone talk about them.

When that is complete, contact me, Jim, at jaslyons@comcast.net, and I’ll tell you where to send the video. Once I receive enough of them, I’ll edit them into a mini-documentary.
